Revisiting Ancient Construction and Rethinking Scale

The CURVE Rammed Earth Studies reinterpret traditional earth construction techniques found in Benin, Burkina Faso and Mali. Made from compacted Belgian soil pressed into custom-developed moulds, each sculpture reveals the distinctive texture and character of the material.

By translating monumental building techniques into sculptural objects, the series explores the relationship between material, construction and scale.

De CURVE Rammed Earth Studies herinterpreteren traditionele aardebouwtechnieken uit Benin, Burkina Faso en Mali. De sculpturen worden vervaardigd uit aangestampte Belgische aarde in speciaal ontwikkelde mallen, waarbij de unieke textuur en het karakter van het materiaal tot uiting komen.

Door monumentale bouwtechnieken te vertalen naar sculpturale objecten onderzoekt de reeks de relatie tussen materiaal, constructie en schaal.
